When you buy a gun online, it has to ship to a licensed dealer (an FFL, short for federal firearms licensee), and the dealer runs your background check before you take it home. Handguns go to a dealer in the state you live in. Buy from any online seller, or from our own online store, and pick it up at the counter. How it works
- Buy the gun online and pick Circle Star in Anderson as your dealer.
- We log it in when it arrives and call you.
- Come in with your ID, fill out the Form 4473, and we run your background check.
- Once it clears, pay the transfer fee and take it home.
What to bring
- A valid government photo ID with your current address. If your ID shows an old address, bring a government document that shows the current one.
- A Texas License to Carry, if you have one. ATF lists it as an alternative to the FBI’s NICS background check, which can make things quicker.
- Your order number or the seller’s name, so we can find your package.
Age and residency
- You must be 18 to pick up a rifle or shotgun, and 21 to pick up a handgun, a frame, a receiver or a suppressor.
- You must live in Texas to pick up a handgun, a suppressor or another gun that isn’t a rifle or shotgun here. Visiting from another state? A rifle or shotgun may be possible over the counter if your home state allows it. Call us first.
How long it takes
Most background checks come back in a few minutes. If the FBI’s NICS system puts it on hold, federal law lets us transfer it after 3 business days if no denial comes back. For buyers under 21 it can take up to 10 business days. A background check is good for 30 days.

How much is an FFL transfer in Texas?
It varies by store. Ours is $30 a gun, with no denial fee and no multi-gun fee.
Do I have to call before I have a gun shipped to you?
You don’t have to, but a quick call helps if the seller needs our license or you want us to watch for it.
Is the fee per gun?
Yes. Each gun is its own $30 transfer. There is no extra fee for bringing in several.
Do you do transfers for private sales?
Texas doesn’t require a background check for a private sale between Texas residents, but some buyers and sellers want one anyway. We do private-party transfers for $30 a gun.
What’s your transfer fee for a suppressor?
$30 on a 4473. If you want it registered, it’s $50 on a Form 4 as an individual or $100 through a trust, and we’ll do the eForm for you and take your fingerprints here. An SBR/SBS or AOW is the same.
Can you hold my gun for a while?
Yes. Storage is $10 a month per gun.
Is there a fee if my background check is denied?
No. We don’t charge a denial fee.
Can I ship a gun to my house in Texas?
No. A gun bought from a dealer or from someone in another state has to go to a licensed dealer. Ammo is different and can usually ship to your door. Shipping from our online store is coming soon.
