A lot of our customers drive in from Bryan and College Station. The student and city rules below are the ones that differ on your end.
Getting here
From College Station, get on Highway 30 (Harvey Road) heading east. From campus, University Drive east to FM 158 puts you on it. Stay on 30 about 21 miles to Roans Prairie, turn right on Highway 90, and we’re about 2 miles down on the left. It’s about 29 miles, around 40 minutes.
From downtown Bryan, take William J. Bryan Parkway, which turns into Boonville Road (FM 158) and meets Highway 30 east of town. From there it’s the same drive, about 29 miles in all.
Buying as an Aggie or Blinn student
- 18 to 20 years old: you can buy a rifle or shotgun here. Handguns are 21 and up.
- Your ID must show a current address. If your Texas ID still shows your parents’ address, bring a government document with your current one, like a voter registration card or vehicle registration. A lease or utility bill doesn’t count.
- From out of state? ATF treats a student as a resident of the state where they live while in school, so you can buy here as a Texas resident while you live here. Call us first if you’re not sure your documents will work.
Carrying at Texas A&M and Blinn
- Texas A&M lets License to Carry holders carry a concealed handgun on campus. Open carry isn’t allowed anywhere on campus, and some places are off limits, like sporting events with posted notice, child-care facilities, and counseling and patient-care areas.
- Living on campus at A&M with your LTC? Your handgun has to be stored in a safe bought or rented from the Department of Residence Life.
- Corps of Cadets halls don’t allow any firearms, drill rifles included.
- Blinn lets LTC holders carry concealed on all its campuses, except at collegiate sporting and UIL (high school league) events and a few other spots. Open carry isn’t allowed.
Shooting inside Bryan and College Station
College Station’s code (Sec. 26-2) bans shooting a firearm in city limits, and it counts air guns, BB guns and bows as firearms. The exceptions include a sport shooting range, a shotgun, air gun or bow on 10 acres or more, a rifle or pistol on 50 acres or more and at least 300 feet from any home or occupied building, and self-defense.
Bryan’s code (Sec. 82-5) bans firing a gun or airgun in the city too. Its exceptions are a supervised shooting range, lawful defense, officers, and an airgun or bow on your own property. Bryan’s code has no acreage exception.
State law limits how cities can regulate shooting on larger tracts in their extraterritorial jurisdiction and on land annexed after September 1, 1981. That’s how we read it, but we’re not lawyers.
Hunting near Bryan and College Station
Brazos County sits between the Navasota and Brazos rivers. It has the same deer rules as Grimes County, where we are, and the same dove, duck and goose zones, so the list on our Navasota page works for you too. Brazos County doesn’t require you to report an antlerless harvest.
For public hunting, the Somerville Wildlife Management Area on Somerville Lake is about 50 minutes from campus, with about 3,200 acres in Burleson and Lee counties. At Somerville Lake, deer hunting is only allowed on the WMA and in a hunt for challenged hunters. Waterfowl blinds go by lottery on Recreation.gov ($10 to apply, $40 if you’re picked), and hogs are hunted by Corps of Engineers permit.
Gunsmithing, sight-ins and online orders
Need a gunsmith? Ours threads barrels for suppressors for $200, or $225 to cut to length and thread, and we quote any gunsmith work before we start. Order from our online store and pick it up here. We call you when it’s ready, and there’s no pickup fee. Bringing a deer rifle? A sight-in is $50 a gun, plus ammo if you don’t bring your own, and scope mounting is free.
Transfers and Sundays
Order a gun online, have it shipped to us, and pick it up once your background check clears. FFL transfers are $30 a gun. Shopping for a suppressor? Pick out a can and fill out a 4473, and it goes home with you once your background check clears. Class or work eating up your week? We’re open Sunday 10 AM to 5 PM, plus Monday to Saturday 9 AM to 6 PM, so the drive can wait for the weekend.
