A while back, we told you straight: we were not selling suppressors on a Form 4473 here at Circle Star Firearms in Anderson, TX. Not because we did not want to. Because the guidance we had at the time did not give us the confidence we needed to do it right. We would rather tell you “not yet” than tell you “sure” and have it come back to bite either of us.
Well, we have spent the months since digging in: working with the ATF, leaning on our attorneys, and getting real clarity on the suppressor purchase process. And we are glad to tell you: that “not yet” is now a “let’s go.”
What Changed With Our Suppressor Sales Policy
Suppressors are still regulated NFA items, and that part of federal law has not moved an inch. What has changed is how confident we are in a specific, compliant path to sell suppressors on a Form 4473, and we are only willing to walk that path with customers who meet a clear set of conditions. No shortcuts, no gray areas. Just a suppressor buying process we trust, right here in Anderson, Texas.
Who Qualifies to Buy a Suppressor at Circle Star Firearms
This is not open to everyone walking through the door. To buy a suppressor from us this way, you have to be a current member of one of these three organizations:
- Gun Owners of America (GOA)
- Texas State Rifle Association (TSRA)
- Firearms Regulatory Accountability Coalition (FRAC)
If you are already a member of one of these Second Amendment groups, you are most of the way there. If you are not, it might be time to look into joining. Good organizations, good causes, and now a practical benefit too when you are ready to buy a suppressor in Texas.
Documents Needed to Purchase a Suppressor
We know nobody likes surprises at the counter, so here is exactly what you will need. Bring these items with you, or have them ready to send our way ahead of time.
To prove your qualifying membership (need ONE of these):
- Your physical membership card
- Your member account number
- An email from the organization showing your current membership, name, and address
To prove who you are (same as any firearm purchase):
- A valid Texas Driver’s License with your current address
- A valid Texas License to Carry, also known as an LTC, with your current address (if you have one)
No LTC? No problem. We will simply run your background check the same way we would for any other firearm purchase.
How the Suppressor Purchase Process Works
Once you have got your membership proof and your ID in hand, here is the walk through for buying a suppressor at Circle Star Firearms.
- Show us your qualifying membership info: card, account number, or that verification email. Do not have a printout? No problem. Just email your account information to nfa@circlestarfirearms.com ahead of time, along with your name and the name of the group you are a member of.
- Hand over your Texas Driver’s License (and your LTC, if you have got one).
- Fill out your Form 4473 just like you would for any other firearm.
- Background check runs: instantly if you have got a valid LTC, or through the standard NICS process if you do not.
- Once it is approved, the suppressor is yours to take home.
That is it. Same care and attention we put into every sale, just with one extra step up front to make sure everything is buttoned up right and fully compliant with federal law.
Why We Are Doing It This Way
We did not want to be the shop that says yes to everything without knowing why. We also did not want to be the shop that says no forever out of caution. This suppressor sales policy is our middle ground: a way to serve folks who are already serious, engaged members of the gun rights community, while staying squarely on the right side of the law.
